Behind the Scenes: SS21 Shoot

“I truly love the beautiful patterns and colours with this collection as it has a real feel of nature to it with its floral and animal prints. Then there is the joy of the workmanship that each piece has, perfect seam work mixed with stylish designs all incorporated within quality fabrics. I’m always proud to curate my collections as I know I’m giving you all wonderful pieces of clothing that will stand the test of time.” Clare Morris, Founder.

We took to the streets of York in early spring for our latest SS21 collection, with a focus on not just the clothes, but the stories that lay behind them.

As ever, we were surrounded by our trustworthy team of professionals who made our vision and narrative come to life.

  • Clare Morris: Clare is the founder of Copper & White, as well as our head buyer. She hand-picks and curates every collection and personally styles each look which the models wear.

  • NIMA: In advance of the shoot, NIMA worked alongside us to finalise concepts, source locations and models, and create shot lists - so we could capture exactly what we need for our website and social channels. On the day, Lauren Dodds from NIMA was on hand to ensure the day ran as smooth as possible and that we captured the authenticity and true story of the brand.

  • Jennifer Thoburn Photography: Jen successfully captured the tale of Copper & White and highlighted the natural and authentic beauty of our models.

  • Eleanor Jayne Makeup Artistry: Eleanor worked with our wonderful models to give them a natural glow whilst enhancing their look with stunning everyday makeup.

When it comes to models, we are incredibly proud to have worked with some amazing women since we first launched in 2015. Clare is always looking for that special beauty which emanates from beautiful personalities. Diversity of age, ethnicity, and sizes is important to us. Fantastic charisma, and women who champion other women. The models support and encourage each other, and that connection can often be seen through the lens.

The lifestyle part of the shoot took the team to the cobblestoned streets of York city centre. With businesses beginning to open after the recent lifting of restrictions, we really wanted to highlight the strength and resilience of the independent businesses which give York its unique charm. We made a beeline to the Shambles Market where Copper & White is currently based during the week.

The bustle of customers and warmth of stall owners created a sense of community which was beautifully captured in the photography. You’ll see Laura from The Dark Horse Espresso Bar peeking around her trailer handing a hot drink to the models. Or maybe you’ve spotted John, whose eye-catching fruit and vegetable stall has been around for over 100 years, as he assists the model with her fruit. With Copper & White’s story beginning at the Shambles Market, it was truly wonderful to shoot the new collection amongst fellow business owners, like Clare herself.

As for the collection itself, Copper & White’s Spring 2021 collection featured an array of patterns, structures, and spring colours. From casual daywear to chic cocktail party pieces. The wonderful element of Copper & White collections is how the pieces are so easily transformed. From wearing a casual dress with sleek trainers and an everyday handbag, then carrying the look into the evening by swapping in a pair of heeled sandals and adding some bold jewellery. Colour schemes are carefully curated so that Copper & White pieces you select this Spring, will seamlessly suit items you may have purchased last season.

As usual, our Spring Summer shoot was a day to remember. We really hope that the excitement we felt shone through the photography, and that you have just as much fun wearing it!
